Lucknow Came In Top-3 Cleanliness City: Lucknow made a historic jump from 44th to third position
While Lucknow was ranked 44th in 2023 , it reached third place in the Swachh Survey of 2024. This leap is the combined result of the participation of the Municipal Corporation, citizens and administrative monitoring in cleanliness. President Draupadi Murmu also praised this performance of the capital and Lucknow was honored in a program held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President honored 5 cities of UP
Along with Lucknow, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Agra and Gautam Buddha Nagar also received cleanliness awards in various categories. These awards show that Uttar Pradesh has now joined the list of leading states in terms of cleanliness.
Mayor and Municipal Commissioner received the honor
The Mayor of Lucknow, the then Municipal Commissioner Indrajit Singh, Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma and Principal Secretary Urban Development Amrit Abhijat were present in this grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This honour is a proof of the participation of the people of Lucknow and the willpower of the government.
Lucknow model became a source of inspiration
“Lucknow came in top-3 cleanliness city” has now become an example. Other cities are now taking inspiration from Lucknow’s planned cleanliness system, waste management and use of technology. Especially smart dustbins, digital tracking and citizen feedback system made this possible.
The achievements of Prayagraj and Gorakhpur were also special
Prayagraj received the award in the “Special Category” because the cleanliness system remained excellent even during a big event like Kumbh. At the same time, Gorakhpur was awarded the Ministerial Award – here, as the karmabhoomi of CM Yogi Adityanath, the effective waste management system was appreciated.
Agra and Gautam Buddha Nagar get state level honour
Agra made remarkable improvements in door-to-door garbage collection, public awareness and waste segregation. Gautam Buddha Nagar was declared the cleanest city in the 3–10 lakh population category.
Indore created history, became number-1 for the eighth time
Indore topped the entire survey – it has been ranked number 1 for the 8th time in a row. Indore’s “zero dumping” and complete solid waste management model is now being implemented across the country. Its performance has inspired many cities including Lucknow.
Combination of technology and awareness associated with cleanliness
Technology, public participation and policies played an important role in Lucknow’s journey. Lucknow has now become a strong example in the direction of ‘Clean City India’. Lucknow’s achievement in the context of ‘UP clean city’ indicates a change in the condition of the entire state.
Lucknow’s cleanliness success: Plan for the future
The Municipal Corporation is now planning to take this success forward even more strongly. This includes “Digital Cleanline Feedback System”, Plastic Ban and Waste to Wealth projects.
